This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) through the joint providership of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, Continuing Education Service and Texas Council of Community Centers. Individuals missing any portion of the day, arriving late, or leaving early will not be eligible for contact hours or a certificate of attendance. You must attend the entire course and complete an evaluation in order to receive continuing education contact hours. This one-day course addresses the fundamentals of breastfeeding with lecture lasting 30-60 minutes followed by case studies, interactive demonstrations and discussions to reinforce material. Clinical Lactation Practicum (CLP) is a two-day course for Texas WIC staff and focuses on increasing knowledge of lactation problems and methods of intervention.Knowledge gained during lectures will prompt participants to apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to case studies and various skill-based activities.
Advanced Lactation Management (ALM) is a two-day course addressing advanced breastfeeding concerns.Lactation Principles (LP) is a one day course addressing the fundamentals of breastfeeding, baby behavior and counseling which utilizes various case studies and activities to enhance information presented.The Principles of Lactation Management (POLM) and Lactation Counseling and Problem Solving (LCAPS) classes will no longer be offered. These new classes were launched in the Summer of 2019. Facilities interested in hosting must complete an application in advance.īased on feedback from attendees, we have developed new classes with minimal lecture time and more interaction throughout the day. The Texas WIC Program collaborates with the Texas Association of Local WIC Directors (TALWD) to provide current, evidence-based lactation education to ensure consistent, accurate information across all levels of health care professionals.
